Progression - for two percussionists (2020)

Progression explores polymetric textures inspired by Progressive Metal music. As the title suggests, the music in Progression is characterized by a series of rhythmic progressions as simple themes grow in complexity and spin out of control before breaking apart and forming something new. The continuous growth and decay of themes throughout the work is guided by recurring polyrhythmic cycles that underpin the overall structure of the piece and influence the developmental path of musical materials as they take shape.

Vibraphone (Range: F3-F6), Glockenspiel (Written Range: G3-C6), 2 Melodicas (Range: F3-F6), 4 Graduated Bongos (2 sets of 2 bongos), Low Tom Tom, Bass Drum, Wood Simantra (Wood plank or wood block), Metal Simantra (Clangorous metal such as a brake drum, anvil, or sixxen bar), Trashy Cymbal Stack (Preferably a China Cymbal stacked with a Crash Cymbal)
